the last time ENGLAND beat FRANCE in a competitive match was at the 1982 FIFA World Cup finals 1st round Group 4 on 16 June 1982 at San Mames in Bilbao, Spain. ENGLAND won the match 3-1 with the goals scored by Bryan Robson (1' & 67') & Paul Mariner (83'). Gérard Soler scored the only goal for FRANCE in the 25th minute.

The 1982 match in Bilbao was the last time England defeated France in a match of significance.
Since then England have only beaten them twice in friendlies, including the 1997 Le Tournoi in Montpellier. Both times, Alan Shearer scored.
