Hard rapid blinking?
My 9 year old son has recently started blinking rather quickly and hard- to the point of squeezing his eyes closed when he does. He does not do this all the time, but it is a frequent occurance. I have asked him about his and he just says he can't help it. He also states there is nothing wrong with his eyes, etc. He rarely does this when he is just sitting around watching TV, playing video games, or whatever. It seems more likely when he is doing homework, reading, or talking to people. He just had his eyes checked and was prescribed reading glasses (again), but they seem to make no difference. His eye doctor had nothing to say about the blinking. Has anyone ever seen this or know what could be the cause and/ or cure? I'm a little concerned and a little bothered as this is very distracting when you are trying to talk to him.

It sounds as if your son may have some sort of tic.
See your pediatrician about it. We have seen this occasionally at my school.
It could also just be a habit or dry eyes, but it needs to be mentioned to your pediatrician.
Here is a link with tic information, just for reference:

could be allergies, could be a neurological problem as the previous poster suggested (tic)
try OTC alaway eyedrops 1st...if he's "squeezing" b/c they ITCH, then alaway will take away the itch.Source(s): optometrist http://blog.360.yahoo.com/blog-wSz1Uw8haa.._wmbA0e...
