    (sqrt 2)cos x - 1 = 0

    cos x = 1/(sqrt 2)

    --> x lies in lst and 4th quadrant

    Let α be the basic angle.

    cos α = 1/(sqrt 2)

    By observation, α = 45°.

    Therefore, the solutions to the given equation are 45°, 315°, 405°, 675°, 765°, ...

    first add 1 to both sides

    (sqrt 2) cos x = 1 next divide both sides by (sqrt 2)

    cos x = 1/(sqrt 2) take the inverse cos of both sides and get

    x = 45
