definition of friend?

WE'VE ALL HEARD THE SAYING THAT " A FRIEND IS ONE WHO STAYS WITH US IN BOTH GOOD AND BAD TIMES. THOSE WHO STAY WITH YOU ONLY IN THE GOOD TIMES ARE SIMPLY TAKING ADVANTAGE OF YOUR GOOD FORTUNE." BUT WHAT ABOUT THOSE WHO STAY WITH US ONLY IN THE BAD TIMES? WHAT TO CALL THEM?

Update:

PLEASE READ THIS

BEFORE ANSWERING:

You aren't following the question-I have not asked for the definition of a friend, . As I said before, it is a cliched saying, "friends are those who stick with you in the good and bad times."

My question is, "what is the person who sticks with us only during bad times called?"

Based on my definition of friend, no I have no friends. I have aquaintances, see people at work, and hang out at a local restaurant. But if I need something, like a test at a hsp. I am on my own. I have finally given up on friends. I think that maybe the reason I have none is because they are so family oriented in this town. If you don't have family you are up @@#$$ CRICK. People I find are very inconsiderate here, and that is why I intend to eventually leave this F@##$#@ town, cause I hate it here and I am tired of their family get togethers. That is why I spend so damn much time on this f@#$#@ computer. Thanks world for letting me vent.

A real friend is gonna help you everytime whether its good time or not. For example a good friend would tell you well done if you got a promotion for example and not be jealous of you. And in bad times he/she would stay and comfort you. Its not up to the time that he/she is with you but the response he/she has to what is going on in your life.

I believe they use the term fair weathered friends to describe this particular condition. Sometimes we want to have close friendships but circumstances prevent us. I remember an old saying goes, "The only way to have a good friend is to be a good friend." Your right if we could just invent a good friend lottery we wouldn't have to worry about weeding out the flighty friends. But adversity builds character, so keep plugging!

    Dutch poem:

    Friend

You need someone, silent and sincere

Who, when it's necessary, will pray for you and fight for you

Only when you have someone who laughs with you and cries with you

Only then you can say, I have a friend

If you have someone who shares everything with you

Dinner table and bed, and whp never bores you

If you have someone who heals all your misery

Have you any idea what that means, what difference it makes?

Only when you have someone who laughs with you and cries with you

Only then you can say, I have a friend
