i have a dell lattitude C series laptop.

what type of RAM does it take?

is there all sorts of diff types of ram for laptops like there is for desktops?

It takes DDR RAM.

They use the same speed ram, but just the smaller laptop versions.

NO they are not the same, RAM for laptop is small, the one in your desktop pc is longer: you can see it here:
