If you were once a lying, thieving, murdering, drug-taking, Satan-worshipping, brain-damaged bit of dog vomit?

and now you're a Christian, why would anyone think that's an advertisement for Christianity?

Who would rely on the testimony of such a person?

Wouldn't it raise at least a suspicion that Christianity appeals especially to self-indulgent and irresponsible people with below-average intelligence?

Who started this style of evangelism anyway?

Hey man, physically sick people need a doctor. Not those who are well.

Spiritually sick people need help as well. And the more spiritually ill one is, the more help one needs.

This is the analogy that Jesus used.

That was the thing with Jesus. He was ridiculed and hated by those religious hypocrites because he hung out with those who were considered the scum of the earth at that time. He broke the religious rules and opened up peoples' narrow minds.

And to answer your question "who would rely on the testimony of such a person"... that IS the testimony, man. The fact that people can see that this person who was once a total self indulgent *** is now wanting to help others and is humble and isn't so self serving anymore...do you think people around him would be like "WOW!! What happened to THAT GUY??"

THAT is how we are told to witness to people. Through our actions and through love. Not through doom and gloom, hell and damnation scare tactics.....people have really missed the mark concerning this.

Who started this kind of evangelism? Our Christian name sake. Christ.

It was Jesus. Yeah He did it. The Pharisees were always upset with Him hanging out with the known sinners and drunkards. Even the followers He had asked Him why He did it. All He said was He didn't come for the good but the lost.

I guess He figured that He would probably have to step in miraculously to stop me from lying, stealing, reveling in the number of humans I had killed. Got me to stop taking recreational drugs and to shun idolaters. He healed me of my mental distress and delivered me from prejudice thinking. Although my IQ is still less than average compared to someone with your education and intelligence He gets me through the day in a rather generous way.

I would never Want you to hold me up as an example of a righteous Christian because I am as dog vomit to God same as you. Instead look at my depraved life and observe the change, none of it to my glory but all glory to Jesus who made me new.

Just a gentile prayer may take the anger and frustration out of your voice. Go ahead try it.

I am Catholic, and we have our own version of this question:

What if a drug-addicted, gun-runner, never-do-well, and his wife, a gambling swindler, who sleeps around, brought their baby to the Catholic Church for baptism? Should we baptize that baby into the Catholic Church, knowing there's a 99.99 % chance that nothing good will come to that child's life?

Considering that an ordinary club like the Kiwanis, JC, New York Yatch Club, etc vets their members, why shouldn't the Catholic Church? Why shouldn't ANY church?

100 % of Catholics I ask say: OF COURSE we should!

    WHY? Because we believe:

    a) baptism is a sacrament

    b) God's Mercy is infinite

    c) The Catholic Church is universal!

This baby will most likely never be the poster boy for Catholic youth, but we do believe the baby will receive GRACE, directly from God, at his baptism, and we can not deny him that, specially if the parents, for whatever reason, ask for it.

Jesus came to save sinners. It is the sick who need a physician, He said.

One of my favorite stories is how Jesus saved the men who were demon-possessed lunatics (Matthew 8:28-34). They had broken chains hanging from their wrists, lived in a graveyard, and attacked voyagers. They were a horrible terror.

Bit Jesus healed them--cast the demons into a herd of pigs. For economic reasons, the people asked Jesus to leave. He did, but left those healed lunatics to meet their family and friends again.

They did a good job of witnessing and when Jesus returned later, the entire village came to see who this miracle man was.

Yes, if Jesus can heal the lunatic, He can heal you and me, too--there is hope for the worst of worst.

Not everyone is a lunatic that accepts Christ. Christ also selected the noble, the educated, and refined. The have their intellectual story of how Bible truths fulfilled and Jesus is the Messiah.

I fall into that category somewhat--it was mathematical analysis of the Scriptures that convinced me there was a God. That is why one site in particular impresses me, and it's for you, too. Break the Bible code at http://abiblecde.tripod.com/ It proves Jesus is your Savior.

Shalom, peace in Jesus, Ben Yeshua

So you are not self-indulgent, nor irresponsible and presumably above average intelligence. Well - Christ came to save just the sort of people you are talking about - and you too.

Conversion is a very handy way of avoiding personal responsability for bad behavior. Works great. "Hey--I was a very bad person but now I love Jesus so it's OK and you have to take me at my word and forgive me" Try it, you might be surprised how well it can work. Wasn't Saint Paul on the road to Damascus the first to do this?

Can you handle the Truth of God, oh proud one?

2Sa 22:28 And the afflicted people thou wilt save: but thine eyes [are] upon the haughty, [that] thou mayest bring [them] down.
