Check out the rest of the story... Moses only saw the backside of God. (Exodus 33:20 But He said, "You cannot see My face; for no man shall see Me, and live." Exodus 33:21 And the LORD said, "Here is a place by Me, and you shall stand on the rock. Exodus 33:22 So it shall be, while My glory passes by, that I will put you in the cleft of the rock, and will cover you with My hand while I pass by. Exodus 33:23 Then I will take away My hand, and you shall see My back; but My face shall not be seen.) The bible is like a puzzle with many pieces that must be put together to make sense. There are some contradictions but most are due to improper translation from the original Hebrew or Greek texts. When a scripture is in question you must gather as much information about it from other scriptures else where in the bible to clarify the meaning of it. Contact me with any scripture that you think is out of sorts and I will be glad to provide you with some clarification. I use a bible software with seven translations and Strong's concordance with the original Hebrew and Greek words.

The only flat-out inaccuracies or contradictions in the Bible are not God's words -- they are unbelieving men's (however, there are a very small number of "scribal errors," also).

    For example:

John 7:52 They answered and said to him, “Are you also from Galilee? Search and look, for no prophet has arisen out of Galilee.”

Here, the Pharisees "conveniently" overlooked the fact that the Messiah was to arise from there (Isaiah 9:1-2); the prophets Jonah and Nahum also came from Galilee.

An example of a scribal (copyist) error may be found when one compares 2 Kings 24:8 with 2 Chron. 36:9.

1 Peter 1:5 Ye who through faith are shielded by God's power until the coming of salvation that is ready to be revealed.

Believing in God is good enough according to 1 Peter. However,

James 5:23 Faith without works is dead.

If we don't do things, we don't have faith, meaning we MUST do things and believing is not enough. One says God does everything, one says we have to do something. The Bible is over 2000 years old and went through many parts of a corrupted church. Just look at the over 500 examples the above answers have given. There's no way the Bible could be in a perfect form.

I believe in God, that Christ died for us and think the Bible has good moral teachings, but I am very skeptical about it and don't hold it to the highest truths.

No. There are a lot of atheists here that will tell you that they can, but it's so obvious they don't have the first clue about what the bible is really about. Interestingly enough, the only ones that have answered this question saying that they can are the ones that consistantly represent the height of ignorance of Chrisitianity.

    edit:

Thanks to the guy above me for illustrating my point. Just click on his profile and read his questions and answers concerning christianity.

Sure - I could give you a list of over 300 - but you'll just say that they are all taken out of context, or come up with some other excuse, such as them being written from two different perspectives....

Lets just look at the story of Judas' death. Did he hang himself, or fall and "burst asunder?"

Ive heard the excuse, and I dont buy it for a minute.

Trying to start an argument over scriptures?

  • 1 decade ago

No, I can give you more then one but I can't advertise them on here. They are contradicting only apparently and they are too many to explain all here. But I assure you, it makes sense.

On the other hand, nonbelievers would be glad to use them to prove Bible is fairy tale. Yet often (in court also) one can prove true to be false.

By that do you mean contradictions in the Greek scriptures (NT)?
