What if someone started telling people that a Stephen King novel was a holy book?

You'd think that person was crazy.

But you can't prove your Bible is the truth any more than anyone can about any book.

You illustrated this for me in my last question, when I asked if the Bible is compelling enough on its own, without being promoted by others, to convert atheists.

Update:

Haha Sips, thanks for the idea for this question, by the way. :oP

    LOL. Thanks. I am crazy.

I'm torn between worshiping D. Adams, T. Pratchett and King as what kind of a universe to believe in.

    No

We generally accept some literature as "classic" and prophetic.

I don't know if Stephen King is going to fall into that, but George Orwell and Aldus Huxley have.

Some consider Be Here Now to be a holy book, as is The Way of Zen.

True, and there are many "holy books" or teachings that have been passed down through the years. For example we could look to the Australian aborigines whose culture has existed for 60 thousand years - and yet we have no problem rejecting their creation/god/spirit myths without even investigating them.

    It--Clowns are bad very bad.

    The Stand--Don't cough around me!

    Carrie--Pig's blood...bad idea

And in general...is life painting me as a sympathetic character...NOOOOOO!!!!!!

For you, an Atheist. You should have used Stephen Hawking as your example. It fits better for your theory.

Is it not Hawking book already your Bible! Therefore, the answer is Yes, for the Ahteist.

Got the connection dear. Hawking - science -Hawking - science- Atheists - science. got the picture dear!
