I think the El Camino was an A-Body car during 78, GM recoded their cars from time to time due to redesigns, new designs and dropped designs. It has been both an A and G.

    Look here:

A, B, F, H, W etc. . . are all internal codes GM used to identify the various body sizes or feature locations.

    Check this website:

IF you are having trouble finding references, look up online car magazines. It isn't difficult to find exhaustive lists in the magazines that detail which cars were classified with each alphabetic designation. You can also look up car club websites for GM's and they have lots of additional help.

    I hope these help.

lol. i love my 84 elky!!!

TECHNICALLY the 78 is an A body. but to really mess you up it is the "metric" chassis that G bodies share. and it is considered a "mid-size" though now midsize is like a ford taurus size!!! and yes, all elkys from the beginning were full frame cars.

i always forget if its 78 only or 78 and 79 that are still A cars. only diff i have seen is 78 tail light wiring and front spindles and lug studs are diff...

heres some good reading for ya.
