What is the best fabric softener?

I have never used fabric softener and am looking for one. Something that smells really nice and makes my clothes smell good! Which is the best one? Does it have to be pricey to be good? Will it also help with static?

I've used both liquids and the sheets, and found that both do a good job making things soft and static free.

The scents added to them usually do not stay on the clothes that long, and some of them are so strong that they can conflict with whatever cologne or perfume you might wear. Also, keep in mind that the smell on the product may not be the same when it's on the clothes! As such, I prefer unscented ones.

The sheets are easier to use, because you just toss them in the dryer (I save the "used" ones, and put them in my laundry hamper to keep the stink down! I also throw them in the wash, on the chance that it still might do its job, there! I'm not sure one way or the other!). With the liquids, you can add it to the "softener" dispenser, if your washer is so equipped; otherwise, you have to wait for the "rinse" cycle, which I've missed more than once! And, yes, I have added the liquid fabric softener to the wash at the same time as the soap, which you wouldn't think would do any "harm", but it's possible that it may cause the soap to break down sooner than it normally would, due to the water softeners in the fabric softener, thus reducing the soap's efficacy.

As for brands, I don't like to advertise, but I have used a few for both liquids and sheets, and haven't found any real differences; I usually go with what's on sale, even a non-name brand.

I am on the hunt for something that stays strong & so far I know what's worked best for me is the liquids. If I use sheets it takes about 5-10 per load & the smell STILL evaporates too quickly.

I have used Downey-original scent with good luck, GAIN original scent (my favorite) and a cheaper but very good choice is SAUVITEL which smells a lot like the original Downey.

Not too happy with any of these right now with my powder TIDE detergent--I don't know if it's cancelling them out or what, but I'm not getting a long-lasting scent like I have in the past. I wonder if it matters to use the same detergent with the softener? Probably does boost the scent.

I use Downy "April Fresh" liquid softener & sometimes , I use the Downy "April Fresh" sheets instead. I love the scent it leaves on my laundry & my closet smells great too.

    Go for the sheets.

What you should do is go the the laundry section and sniff each one and see which one YOU like. They are probably all alike so choose the one your nose likes best.

And use half a sheet, that's all you need!
