Are the Red Sox really planning on bringing Matt Clement back??

Even as a diehard Red Sox Fan, I don't even agree w/ this decision. It would be like the Yankees bringing Pavano back.

Let's get serious here for a second. The Red Sox are not going to have Clement pitch more than spot starts. Even if he is 110%, he would still not be better than any of the starters they have right now. He woudn't even be able to beat out Tavarez for that spot starting role either. At this point in Clements career, he is on his last big contract, that expires at the end of this year, and the Red Sox are not going to resign him. They are just getting him into shape so he can get picked up by another team that needs some help pitching, and doesn't have the money to go out and get the Johan Santana's. He will probably start somewhere next year, but he isn't going to play for the Red Sox, they are just waiting for his HUGE contract to expire, so they can have that money to go play around with in the free agent market, or what they should do is use it to resign Mike Lowell, who is this seasons MVP for them I think, and they deal Lugo and Drew, sign A-Rod for a realistic amount, put him at short, and move Coco to right and have Jacoby Elsbury play CF. They might decide to go after one of the four big OF too in FA. If they don't get a OF, then they should try and get Santana if Schill retires. Clement will not start.

Matt Clement will not be coming back to pitch for the Red Sox in 2007. That was annouced last night on the pre-game show. As far as next year we will have to wait and see.

It has been so long since he has pitched that I don't think he would be back this year. Who knows though? He was not a bad pitcher before he got hit in the head. If he can get over his trauma from that and not be so timid, he may be fine! The Sox will make sure he is more than ready before they bring him back into any rotation so I am not too worried at this point.

I feel your pain with Clement. He is a head case who has not pitched well since he got beaned off the head. BUT, with that said, if the reason for his stinky pitching is due to his latest surgery and NOT his psychological issues, then he will be an extra quality arm in the bullpen, which you can never get enough of in the playoffs.

Source(s): He still makes me cringe though.

Red Sox try to planning to bring Matt Clement. But he's has been on DL list for all time. Maybe Red Sox don't want him because they has Buckett, Dice-K, Lester, Wakefield, and Curt Schilling. They had very tough rotation. Or Red Sox would put him on the bullipen to imrpove his health from injury.

Matt Clement has better stuff then any Yankee pitcher! So yes he should be brought back he's a lot better then Tim Wakefield unless Wakefield is facing Tampa Bay.

HazMatt - if healthy - may make the expanded roster, but will not be a factor in the stretch drive.

are they that desperate for pitching?

  • matt clement is not a good pitcher and it will screw up their pitching staff
