what is meant by a 3 atm water resistant watch? how much it can resist against water?
- RadzewiczLv 61 decade agoFavorite Answer
One atm corresponds to 32 feet of water.
You can take the watch down to 96 feet, an additional 3 atm, and it will stll be water resistant, which by the way, is not the same thing as waterproof. Water resistant means that water may in fact penetrate the housing but it shouldn't harm the watch.

It means the watch is water resistant, but not waterproof. The test is performed on a sample of newly made watches, at a static pressure. Which all means that, you can get the watch wet occasionally with no harm, but repeated exposure to moisture, eg. showering or swimming will eventually destroy the watch. It s basically splash proof, you can get it wet and quickly dry it off, and it should be ok, but if you submerge it for more than a few seconds, you may ruin it.

i have just bought a 3 atm water resistant watch of O.T.S. The seller said she didnt guarantee that the watch could stand a shower or something like that. Should I just go for it or listen to the seller ?

It means that when new the watch is water-resistant to 30m.
In practice, this will depend not only on the water depth, but also on the age of the sealing material, past damage and temperature.
It does not mean that the watch is waterproof.

ATM Stands For.?
- 1 decade ago
3 atm or Three atmospheres means that it can withstand three atmospheric bars of pressure before it will start to leak. This is mostly used for divers. If you are just an
"average Joe" using this watch and get a few splashes of water on it or even put it totally in water like taking a shower or doing dishes or somthing like that, you are good to go and should never have a problem. Good luck!

In theory, it will withstand a water pressure of 300g/cm² which is equal to 3 atm, (2,280mmHg or 44.1 psig). (But I wouldn't try it, it says. 'Water resistant' not 'Waterproof').

3. ATM and its future implementation

1 atm corresponds to a pressure of 10m of water
3atm of water = depth of 30 meters
