I had to put down a few and will soon be putting down my older ones as their health will decline.
Cookie was about $250, but adding some extra stuff like X-rays. So, roughly about $350'sh by time he was put down that day. This was in 1997, so it has been awhile to remember.
Bogie was about $350'sh... (prices can go up as years go by). That was in 2004.
Jester was about the same I think.....we had him put down on Christmas night. Which was a vet call to his stall (cost lil extra for ranch calls) and on a holiday at that. but the price kinda equaled to the above two as we didn't pay the truck to come in. We hauled him ourselves to the animal grave site area at the city dump. Which I was mad and upset that we did that. Even though it was animal site, I still didn't like the fact of how he was burried! But wasn't my horse, it was my step dad's. His decison, he also regretting doing. We hauled him ourselves instead of the truck coming in, because hoisting him up with lots of horses around, was not a good thing to do. Horses get upset and can be tramatic. When we had to drag him out of the stall (I swear I would never allow this again), all the horses where silent, with their heads over the fence rails. None moved nor made a sound. They knew....and that was the most *shivering* feeling I have ever had! Put him down December of 2003.
Pepper, put down November of 2005, at the vet near us. We moved a few months prior during that summer up in the country area. We didn't own her, took care of her and another horse, so we paid as a "sorry your horse passed" situation. (owners are grateful). She colic sever (impaction with a twisted gut). I left for night class at my college, she was fine, eating etc. I came back 2 hours later and she nor the horse trailer was present. My mom called stating they where at the vet and she was severly in pain...........had to put her down at like 5 am the next day as the medication was not doing anything anymore...even surgury was risky (and costly in the thousands). So......that bill was abit higher, I think about $600 or something like that.
I got Doc (almost 30), Charlee, 28 (other horse taking care of who where the owners of peppy) will soon and Chloe (roughly 18), my mom's horse who pretty much gave her to my husband that seem to be the next three here soon as their health is slowly changing down hill as age naturaly will do to anything/anyone.
I would like to burry them on our property/land. But getting the backhoe to dig it, would be way to costly (and illegal, so have to really be secretive about it..).
