# How many kW does the average American home consume in one day?

I doing some basic research on energy consumption and want some help.

Relevance

The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. Dividing that by 365 gives about 29. But that is just an average. I use more, especially in summer when my air conditioner is running a lot.

And you know if you are doing research you should try google. All I did was google "average american home electric use" and take the first hit.

kw average american home consume day

Average annual household consumption (U.S.) = 10,656 kWh

Divide that by the number of days per year (10,656/365)

So it's right around 30 kWh (kilawatt-hours) per day. My house is more like 9 kWh/day.
