what if the yankees traded for gagne by taking on the chunk texas was supposed to pay of arods salary?

the yankees would get a pitcher only a few years removed from an amazing run of saves without giving up to many prospects. texas wouldnt have to pay arod for the rest of his life. i dont know if you can do cash debt player deals but why not

the Yankees would probably trade Kyle Farnsworth and/or Scott Proctor in an attempt to land Gagne. I guess the Rangers could give the Yankees cash to pay for A-Rod, but it doesn't seem practical or probable, seeing as how much A-Rod is to be paid in the coming years.

The Rangers would never go for that, simply because as soon as A-rod opts out of his contract at the end of this year, Texas would no longer have to pay a portion of his salary. So they'd be giving up Gagne for somewhere in the neighborhood of $4 million.

Great deal for the Yankees, horrible deal for the Rangers.

The Gagne trade is leaning towards the Sox. Ouch.

Gagne still wants to be a closer and I don't think the Yanks would give him that role.
