The US Federal Government's pays what % of total US healthcare spending ?

An overall % is fine, but if anyone happens to have the breakdown by government department, that was be very helpful. HHS, VA, DoD Healthcare, etc. Thanks!!

    Well total health care spending is around 2 trillion a year in 2006.

    The Federal government spends about 580 billion a year on health care.

    So about 25%

    Medicare - 373 billion

    Medicaid - 180 billion

    VA- 88 billion

    55% Non-Health Care Mandatory Federal Spending

    24% Medicare

    14% Medicaid

    6% Soc Security Disability

    4% State Children Health Insurance Program

    I would think the majority would be medicaid and medicare.
