great loss of power...lagging...slower accelerations...car sputters at lower rpm...try cleaning by spraying the sensor with a MAF cleaner which is made specifically for the sensor so it won't get damaged. you can find a can of it at local automotive stores. there may be some kind of leak in your air box or your air filter may have gotten some oil on it which may cause oil to get onto the sensor and throw it off.

Usually if the MAF is malfunctioning, the car will idle roughly or not at all. May idle for a sec then get rough and stall. Probably wont have any pick-up, possible stumble on acceleration, etc... These can sometimes be cleaned if you know how. Even if cleaning doesn't clear up all your troubles, if it changes the behavior significantly, you know you are on to the cause and replace it. I have cleaned many of them in the shop and the car left, running great, it just doesn't ALWAYS work

    The symptoms are

    1.Rough idle

2.Power loss while pressing the gas pedal

    3.Stalling some times

    First try the following

1.Remove teh MAF from the car and place it on a rag

2.Take MAF cleaner or CARB CLEAN and squirt into lavishly and allow the liquid to drain out.

    3.Repeat if needed.

Mostly this will clear off teh dirt.

R you using a performance filter ..if so try a normal paper filter, these performance filter may also make the MAF bad.

MAF fails rarely only...it is a expensive part to be replaced also.

    take care
