First of all, it's The Fonde...as in the Fonde Rec Center on Sabine Street. It's 2 blocks from downtown Houston. I-45 and Memorial Pkwy will take you right to the brown brick rec center. If you get lost just ask the police, the municipal courts and the old police station are across the street. A lot of cops in the area. Another spot is the Quillian Rec center. Its on the deep Southwest side of town. Another place is Hermann Parks Rec Center it's near the Golf Course and Zoo. The name of the gym is actually Judson Robinson, if I am not mistaken. The Westside Tennis Club is former NBA coach/player John Lucas' stomping ground. There are Pro-am games there from time to time and every so often you can get a game there if you are good enough (Its on Wilcrest). All of these places are INDOORS. On the South side you have the Uof H, TSU, Sunnyside Park (Gym), Emancipation Gym in third ward. On the north side you can get a run at the Salvation Army gym. Houston is loaded with gyms that offer a lot of games and competition. Year round leagues at churches and the YMCA's can be found in Health and Fitness mags as well as in the sports page in the Houston Chronicle. Another way to find the gyms are to look in the phone book under the City Listings in the front of the Business(white) pages. Go to Parks and Recreation and look em up based on where you live....there'll be one within 10 miles of where you live. Yes, there are that many. Houston is huge.
