    Free Protection

In addition to a firewall you must have full time (active) virus protection and full time spyware protection.

All the following programs are free.

    Full Time (Active) Virus Protection

If you do not have active virus protection, install only one. All are excellent.

    Try AVG first.

    AVG Antivirus 7.5 Free Edition

Free antivirus - avast! 4 Home Edition

AOL Active Virus Shield (powered by Kaspersky)

    Full Time (Active) Spyware Protection

    Windows Defender

AOL Automatic Protection Against Spyware and Malware

Install the following four programs and run weekly or at least monthly. You need all four. They will greatly increase your protection. They are not a substitute for full time spyware and virus protection.

Ad-Aware SE Personal (update + full scan)

Spybot Search & Destroy (update + immunize + scan)

Do not enable Tea Timer and SDHelper

After installation: update + scan + immunize

SpywareBlaster: Update then open and click “enable all protection”.

SUPERAntiSpyware free version: (update + scan)

    Install The following:

CCleaner: Do not install toolbar option

Removes tracking cookies, unneeded files, history

    In options.

Set to run when computer starts.

Place cookies you want to keep in save list

Norton can be good, however I have two major problems with Norton.

One is that Norton is a system hog compared to some others and Norton is not as quick to identify and offer solutions to new viruses as some others.

I use avg and webroot spy sweeper on my system as well as peer guardian, which is great for keeping snoops out.

Another thing I did when someone tried to hack my ebay, was I set up a port forward through my router.

Instructions on this great protective measure can be found here.

This also gives great advise for firewalling.

After some years of using loose A/V and anti malware I some months in the past put in a Norton trial cyber web protection 2011on my daughters and granddaughters desktops.I constantly felt Norton became an excellent source hog however the main contemporary version became fantastically more desirable. a lot so as that when 3 months I even have put in it on my laptop which looks extensively greater responsive. My determination now till some thing better comes alongside.
