"abba" is Aramaic. This is a form of ancient Hebrew much like southern dialect is a form of American English. The word is the first utterance of a child. It is most similar to "da da" in our language. There were no Syriac or Coptic bishops in Jesus' lifetime. Therefore the word could not have any reference to bishops.

It simply means that we are to look at God with the intimacy of an infant who trusts his "da da".

Abba is the Aramaic word for father, small kids back then would use that word as an intimate term to refer to their dad?

Since Jesus is the Son of God, it would make sense that He would refer to God in that matter.

Abba means Father, or better, Daddy, in Hebrew. It's the same in Aramaic, the language spoken in Judea in the 1st Century of the Common Era .

Abba literally means "daddy." God is our Abba Father. Meaning that He is literally our daddy. He is our heavenly Father, but Father sometimes can be such an impersonal term. But, to call your father "daddy" that implies a very personal, close relationship. When we have such a close, personal relationship with God, we will want to call Him, "daddy." Our daddy in heaven. Our heavenly Father.

I don't know. I didn't even know he called him that. However, you may recall that Jesus is the only person we are supposed to call teacher. Maybe God is the ONLY real bishop. Just a thought.
