The policy is that they only provide tours for groups of 10 or more, with you having to get the tickets via a Senators' or Congresspersons' office. The reality is many of these lawmakers provide what feels like individual tickets, since they put the groups together themselves.

Here is the writeup from my congressperson's web page:

    Tour Requests

White House Tours - (Fill out tour request form)

Our office assists the White House to facilitate tours of the White House for our constituents. We urge you to contact our office to make your request as early as possible.

These are the White House Tour guidelines as stated by the White House:

"Tours of the White House have been expanded to include parties of 10 or more people, regardless of age or type of group, through one’s Member of Congress. Tour requests must be submitted through one’s Member of Congress and will be accepted up to six months in advance. These self-guided group tours will be scheduled approximately one month before the requested date, from 7:30 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. Tuesday through Saturday."

Given these guidelines please fill out the tour request form and understand a few simple rules in order to request a tour through our office:

    1) Tours run one half hour and go from 7:30 A.M to 12:30 P.M. Tuesday through Saturday.

    2) Tours dates must be more than six weeks away.

    3) You must have a group of ten to request a White House Tour.

    4) You will not receive a response until 30 days (at the earliest) prior to the tour.

    5) Security Information: If the White House does confirm your tour, we will contact you at that time and will need the personal information of everyone scheduled to go on the tour (social security number, date of birth, full name, etc.). Please have that information available.

    6) If you have special circumstances let us know when you request your tour. This includes anyone who may need a wheelchair or a walker, or anyone with children less than one year of age, or hearing impaired individuals. You may not bring your strollers or wheelchairs on the tour. The White House does have wheelchairs that you can request.

    7) Please be advised that our office only places the request for your tour. The White House makes all decisions about the time and date and retains the right to accept or deny the tour. You improve your chances of receiving a tour the earlier you send in your request.

    8) Please be advised that groups are eligible to receive only two tours per year.

Careful, I think the policy has changed and they no longer offer same-day tours for individuals.

(Found by searching on "white house tours." Incredibly easy. Alot easier and more accurate than asking a question a YA).

i've got suggested in the previous that many on the awesome are curious approximately ability of numbers, the way a kitten is curious approximately ability of a flashlight beam shining on a wall. They circulate after it like there is a few thing there, even inspite of the incontrovertible fact that there is not any substance.

The White House has tours daily. You have to get a ticket - many times there is quite a line - specially in the summer - what with tourists and all. You will need to pass through a security checkpoint so come without "problems"! On infrequent occasions they close the place up - security takes priority.

I hope that you enjoy it!
