How exactly is the Live Earth concert helping to prevent global warming?

So, obviously, I don't know all the details on the concert, but i remember seeing it advertised on TV and thinking, "How is a concert going to help in the effort to prevent global warming?" I understand that a huge part of the concert has to do with raising awareness, but did that message really get across? It was a concert for goodness' sake, were there any long speeches involved, cuz I would think most people just went to enjoy the music and feel better about themselves(psh). I heard tickets were about $120 a person. Were the proceeds used for something? If so, what exactly? Is it the money that's supposed to help in this "fight" against global warming? HOW?! I just don't get it, and would appreciate some help. Sorry this is so long-winded. Thanks for your time :)

The purpose was simply to raise awareness about global climate change. The more people are aware, the more they'll reduce their greenhouse gas emissions. There were green tips interspersed throughout the event - no very long speeches.

I don't see how it helped to prevent global warming, it probably increased global warming for this past weekend and also in the future. Lots of fossil fuels were used this weekend to put on the show and for transportation. Also, as with most festivals, there is a lot of litter and full garbage containers. I think in the future, because many may try to imitate this to make some money.

all it did was make a bunch of people fly in Planes that burn Fossil Fuels and create more Greenhouse gases even though I think global warming is a bunch of bull it doesn't make sense for more people to do the things they say your not suppose to do just to bring awareness to a fake problem. P.S. I hate AL GORE he's and idiot and a foney

The purpose was to raise "awareness".

If someone isn't "aware" of the global warming hype, they must be living in a cave.

According to Gore---the money raised from the concerts will buy thousands of energy saving light bulbs to be distributed amongst people...He should think about using them himself since his electric bill is about 30k per year....and he tell's us to conserve energy.....

The short version? It did nothing, but make the performers feel good about themselves, and it made the planet warmer for the rest of us in the process.

The best way to fight climate change is to donate to either a well known charity, or a non-profit carbon offsetter. Websites like www.CO2Debt.com screen charities for efficiency and allocate donations to them. You can look for other carbon offset programs, but a lot of them are for profit, Co2debt.com is a non profit group.

    What an excellent question!

Somebody raked in the dough big-time, count on it.

A friend of mine had a beach party 30 years ago, with life bands plenty of beer and booze. 2000 people showed up, for $20 each. He made $40.000 in one weekend. That's how it's done. I wasn't involved in it because I had to work that weekend.

hey lol s, you do realize that "non-profit" just means that the company gives away 10% of their annual revenue. so if you were to believe this "green" nonsense, a regular organization that can use more of the money given to them would be better would it not?

Prevent??? You dont expect those people who are helping to do it for free? This is just another way for them to get your hard earned money.
