They understand this quite well. It is their intent and design to limit free speech. The corrupt have always moved to stifle dissent so as to allow them to operate with impunity.

In 1969, the Supreme Court upheld the fairness doctrine. It was always law in the United States since the advent of radio. Later, 1987, the FCC overturned the doctrine, under, a Republican administration. Congress sought to enforce the fairness doctrine but Republican administrations stated that such legislation would receive a veto from the President. Now, a new democratic Congress is bringing up the issue. Two corollary rules of the doctrine, the "personal attack" rule and the "political editorial" rule, are as follows. The "personal attack" rule was pertinent whenever a person or small group was subject to a character attack during a broadcast. Stations had to notify such persons or groups within a week of the attack, send them transcripts of what was said and offer the opportunity to respond on the air.

The "political editorial" rule applied when a station broadcast editorials endorsing or opposing candidates for public office, and stipulated that the candidates not endorsed be notified and allowed a reasonable opportunity to respond.

he Fairness Doctrine is NOT about limiting free speech. It is about broadcasters giving fair and balanced treatment when attacking a person or entity's character, or, endorsing a candidate.

The Democrats are doing what they do best (griping, whining, moaning and complaining) because conservative talk-radio is ruling the market. The liberals pretty much had a stranglehold on the media for over three decades, and now that they're losing ground they're stamping their feet and throwing a temper tantrum and saying "It's not fair!" They have no interest in fairness or free speech -- all they care about is controlling the engine that the vast majority of Americans use to get their news and information. What they fail to understand is the conservative emergence in the media really isn't a political issue. TV and radio stations are in business to make money, so it's a shrewd business practice on their part to run shows that people will watch and/or listen to. They also fail to understand that the growing trend of conservative programming shows that the majority of Americans either (a) are tired of their decidedly slanted reporting and opinions, (b) are actually moving toward the right, or (c) both.

Yes and do you realize that the Republicans and Democrats are playing Cola war with you. Look up the Cola war and see what it did to the independent companies.

It is a nice strategy to push out third parties from your line of business.

Of course they do but since they are so heavily influenced by socialism these days it really does not matter if it is or not.

The same way packing the courts with liberal judges will allow them to bypass the legislature in direct violation of the constitution. Winning is all that matters.

Like I said last week, I think that there are many people who post "questions" in this forum who are not truly asking questions at all. I think they state their own opinion, put some kind of irrelevant interogative at the beginning of the statement and a question mark at the end. And then they sit and wait for other people to post "answers" which agree with the opinion.

Way to go with the utterly pointless "question" !

Anyway, to "answer" this "question," I think that Democrats don't "realize" something which is only your opinion.

It isn't a direct assault on free speech in any way shape or form.

Limbaugh thinks so anyway, because he likes to attack politician's character ALL THE TIME. So, America didn't have free speech prior to 1987? WRONG.

Yes, as I stated last week "They want to hush the real truth."
