Having looked at several sites, J K Rowling's favourite writer is Jane Austen. Her favourite living writer is Roddy Doyle.

Childhood favourites are "The Little White Horse" by Elizabeth Goudge (one of my favourites, too!); "Manxmouse" by Paul Gallico and "Grimble" by Clement Freud.

Also E. Nesbit (great books!), Philip Pullman, Henrietta Branford, the Narnia books and Noel Streatfeild.

    Jane Austen.

From what she's said in interviews and on her website, she loves to read, but Austen seems to be the one she mentions the most.
