What does science need religion for anything? Scientists are blamed for the atomic bomb, and the story is that they are soulless, heartless people who only know facts but not feelings, so they heartlessly used the bomb against the Japanese. There comes from this the claim that scientists need a "moral rudder". But if I recall history lessons correctly, scientists were merely working for the US Army, no choice, and the decisions to make and USE the bomb were made by US generals who were largely on the Fundamentalist Christian side and who felt they were being "guided" to do God's work to bomb the heathen.
Scientists hold the monopoly on discovery, not religion. Scientists have characterized all visible and even invisible things (X-rays, planets past Saturn). On the other hand from religion you get no novelty, no new discovery that becomes plain to all, just endless speculation and opinion that leads nowhere.
