How come my Windows Media Player will not play "avi" type file movies?

    Download the latest version of Windows Media Player (or at least Media Player 10), this solved the problem for me.

    Or if you like, you can download VLC media player;

    http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

    It's free, no spyware, small, and plays nearly all video formats.

    Because Media Player doesn't have the right codec for that version of AVI files.

    2 Options:

    1. Find the right codec

    2. Download and install VLC Player (www.videolan.org)

    VLC Player IMHO is a far better player than Media Player, sure it don't have all the flashy bling interface, but it does have all the right files for playing your favourite movie clips! (It even plays FLV files!)

    I don't know why, but I downloaded this program called BS Player that does play those files.
