I highly recommend the SBA (Small Business Admin). They have wonderful resources, articles, and mentors. You get help creating a business plan, with financing and support. They are good for planning, starting and maintaining a profitable business. Go to there website and start reviewing articles. Best part of it is it is all free.

    1. The first thing I would do is focus in on what product or service I want to sell or provide to my clients or customers. If I have adequate knowledge of this product or service I would consider the next step otherwise, I would get a job in a business that is doing what I want or something close to it and try to learn as much as I can about running that kind of business.

    2. I would strongly recommend that you talk to a business counselor before you do anything especially spend money. I'd call the local office of SCORE (go to http://www.score.org and input your zip code to find the chapter nearest you), the advice is FREE.

    3. The counselor at SCORE will most likely advise you to write a business plan which is very good advice because it will force you to dig out all of the start up details and the costs of starting a restaurant and force you to also understand all of the aspects of this business including the customers you'll concentrate on (your market ) and how you'll get them to find out and want to come to do business with you.

    4. You business location is important but doesn't make it successful. You also have to have the proper state licenses, the right zoning, the right city and county licenses and permits and you have to be skilled at negotiating with your landlord about who'll stand the cost of the build-out or the changes to the premises to make it ready for your look and feel.

    5. You also have to worry about the normal business planning and management issues related to starting up any business.

Take a look and read some of the articles at:

especially the ones about a business plan and starting a business. Also try their Blog and their Bulletin Board.

    Hope this helped.

Make sure you've looked around at the nature of business today. Look at someone in the field of business you are going into. Do you want to live how they live? Their lifestyle. What is going to set you part from the rest of the field? ROI? What equals success in your business?

If your doing it because it's a life long dream, then shoot for the stars brother; but if your doing it for income, educate yourself in how business is done in the Information Age.

    Good Luck!!
