Help with a story I am writing for school..?

Is there any way to replace your memory of something with a different, false memory. i.e. to force confabulation, to somehow "overwrite" your memory of something.

Could this be done with drugs or medical treatment etc.?

History Channel had a documentary about research that the CIA did during the cold war. This documentary contained an example of one women whose memory was completely erased. The researchers made her forget everything she knew. And its not a conspiracy theory. Watch it its very interesting.
