Why can't a man and a woman live together for the rest of their lives after getting married?

Can anyone explain that?

Is this the work of the Devil?

Plenty of couples live together for the rest of their lives. We all know of couples how have been happy married for 50 yrs etc. So there is hope. It just that some people don't work at it, and give up to easy.

*LOL* Yeah, let's blame it on the devil!!! ;-) Seriously, marriage is a TOUGH institution. Why is it that we see a lot of older couples going through most of their lives together but we can't see that in many couples that are our own age?

Speaking from experience (I've been in this relationship almost 21 years, married almost 18 years), it takes a LOT of suffering to stay married. A lot of compromise. Many women today are working, so they wonder why they're staying in the situation. Many couples (like us) don't have kids, so there is no staying there for the kids. I don't think that women working is a bad thing, I just feel that it gives us more options. Sometimes that's a good thing, sometimes it's not. It's good in an abusive relationship, as it gives the woman an OUT. But it's not that good in normal relationships because the woman no longer has a real reason to stay with a man if she's making the same amount or more $ than he is. So it's much easier to find the Exit sign and live a life on her own.

Tolerance. It's all about tolerance and understanding. Love means it's easier to tolerate and understand, but it doesn't mean that things will ever be perfect. Keep that in mind and the world gets much, much easier! You need to deal with the relationship you've gotten into, not look forward to the "perfect" one you'll have with the boy next door.

Well it IS possible for a man and woman to live together for the rest of their lives after getting married. BUT, it takes ALOT of hard work, and dedication on BOTH parts. Marriage isn't easy, it's the hardest job you will ever have in your life, and for it to be successful, it takes ALOT of hard work.

The reason I believe that we have marriages failing today is the work of the Devil. In the Bible in the book of John, Jesus said, the theif (The devil), comes to steal, kill & destroy. So yes the devil is working at destroying marriage and the sanctity fo marriage. Jesus also said that I come to give life & life more abundantly.

My advice for a long, happy & succesful marriage, is to put God at the center of your marriage. My wife and I were on the verge of a divorce, and we sought help and went through marriage counceling, and that's been something that's helped us alot has been putting God at the center of EVERYTHING in our lives including our marriage.

Now with that being said, just becaue we put God at the center of our marriage doesn't mean that it's going to be easy. Like I said before, making a marriage work and to be succesfull is alot of hard work, and dedication.

I've found that having a selfless attitude really helps. Put your spouse and their feelings and needs WELL before your own.

    Hope that this helps.

    Take care and God Bless

Well, that was my intention when I got married. I thought it was forever. Then he started abusing me and cheating on me and I was forced to do the last thing in the world that I ever wanted to do..Get divorced. I guess people just change (for the worst) and something has to give. And it's the marriage that has to give.

No, I don't think it has anything to do with the work of the devil.

The ones who want to do. No relationship is easy, but alot of people get scared when the first problem comes up they run away instead of confronting the problem. I believe that communication is everything in a relationship and that the coupleshould always go 50/50 so that way they don't feel like one is doing all the work. I know that this is not the answer you were looking for but it is only my opinion. So use to your advantage.

A lot of people rush into marriage and don't realize they're with a person they won't be able to spend the rest of their lives with, sometimes things that are uncontrollable or controlled happen in the relationship that cause negative feelings that add up or just cause a relationship to collapse altogether. there are also people out there who believe in sex after marriage and get married as soon as they can just to have sex, and those relationships usually end in divorce

  • Where do you get your theory from? I know of plenty of married couples who have lived together for the rest of their lives. Do explain!

Devil? How silly. People usually can no longer live together when at least one of them changes too much. When trust is gone, for instance. When abuse takes place. There are many reasons. Leave the devil out of it.

Well I believe they can, and the problem is that people are really into disposable relationships and it's very disheartening. But a successful marriage takes 100% percent from both spouses as well as support and faith in God and each other.

    They can!

It is a matter of commitment. Problems are the work of the enemy or consequences of our actions. You can choose to love the other.

The greatest marriage "glue" is Jesus Christ - make him Lord of your life.

    Though one may be overpowered,

    two can defend themselves.

A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.

    Ecclesiastes 4:11-12

Jesus should be the third strand in your marriage.
