Sorry, your active duty times to not correspond to membership requirements.

Chad, Had you actually read the info at the link you would have known to answer NO not YES.

The dates left by Shanna S are correct but missing the the requirement to have served at least one day on Active Duty in one of the listed periods.

This is from the Main Site of the American Legion.

    Membership Eligibility Requirements

    April 6, 1917 to November 11, 1918 (World War I)

December 7, 1941 to December 31, 1946 (World War II)

    June 25, 1950 to January 31, 1955 (Korean War)

    February 28, 1961 to May 7, 1975 (Vietnam War)

    August 24, 1982 to July 31, 1984 (Lebanon/Grenada)

    December 20, 1989 to January 31, 1990 (Operation Just Cause - Panama)

*August 2, 1990 to today (Operation Desert Shield/Storm)

The inactive Reserve may not qualify you. I would email the American Legion and ask them.

It's a great organization to join.

    Good Luck

You qualify. Typically the American Legion will take anyone who is currently on active duty or who was honorably discharged.

For specifics take a look at http://www.legion.org/?section=bm_membership&subse...

    It's the VFW that's picky.

UPDATE: Once again another Yahoo! Answers user (see below) has gone to the link I provided and copy and pasted the content. The reason I give the LINK is to avoid pasting lengthy and copyrighted content. The questions been answered, move on!

Not sure, their website says you had to have served during a war era, such as:

    August 24, 1982 to July 31, 1984 (Lebanon/Grenada)

    December 20, 1989 to January 31, 1990 (Operation Just Cause - Panama)

The VFW requires you to have earned a campaign ribbon.

Having served August 1984 to August 1989 myself, it looks like I'm not eligible, either.

Looks like someone needs his didy changed!
