It all goes back to a couple of base questions:

    1. Speed costs money, how fast do you want to go?

    2. Do you want speed, mileage, or reliability? It's hard to have all 3.

If you want to keep some gas mileage and reliability, I'd start with a set of headers, TBI spacer, ECM chip or reprogramming, hi-flow filters, and if it's legal, take the cats off.

If mileage isn't an issue, go for all of the above, plus bigger injectors, bigger throttle body, and a cold air intake.

These would get you in the range of 30 to 40hp and still keep you under $800.

This is the kind of work i like most. Make it faster, louder and scarier around the turns. Here's the deal, what is your budget and what area do you live in? I ask because most of the country has emission inspections that will limit what you can do unless you don't license it for on road.

Where I live, there is no testing or inspections so I pretty much do whatever makes me happy. That truck could take a stroker motor, different gears, nitrous, and on and on and on, so what do you want to spend and how fast do you want to go. do you want it to be a daily driver that is reliable or do you want to take it to the track and flog it like you just stole it? I've taken vehicles and done some pretty rediculous stuff in the name of speed and scaring the ***** out of my passengers. You need to be specific about what you want to accomplish and what part of the country you live in. Also, is it a high mileage and tired motor and trans? or is it fresh enough to flog it with some juice?

flows is a part of doing what you want, however you will need to change your intake and your single camshaft to dual overhead rehole your bores and for that you will need new piston and crankshaft and bearings. This could be a very expensive job unless you know people in the machine shop and you know some mechanics.Good luck.

start with kn air filter then up grade the cpu then go with supercharger if still not enough horsepower then go with the nitros.

The biggest bang for your buck will be a shot of nitrous.
