    A is the smallest side. The angle subtending A is the smallest therefore A is the smallest. Consider a triangle with one if its angles being one degree (even draw one). You can then imagine that the side facing that one degree angle would be very very small. Remember an angle is measure of the amount of turning between two lines and the distance between these two lines increases as the angle grows larger or as you move away from the vertex.
