1.5 spacing help?!?!?

Can you have 1.5 spaces on an essay/report/exam? Like what is 1.5 spacing? I don't have microsoft word. Like is it just a space like this:

Uganda is located in Africa.

Chad is also located in Africa.

Not very good examples but you understand what I mean.

    line spacing definition from http://developer.apple.com/documentation/mac/Text/...

The vertical distance between two lines of type, measured from base line to base line. For example, 10/12 indicates 10-point type with 12 points base to base (that is, with 2 points of leading).

Basically it is amount of blank space between two lines of text.

Having gone to college myself you need to hand in final versions of your papers in double spacing unless the professor states otherwise.

If you don't have Microsoft word and wish to type on your home computer for your essay/report/exam you might consider using a very good free alternative called OpenOffice from http://www.openoffice.org/

Here is a tutorial on open office

    1. You can use 1.5 spacing for essays and reports... it makes your sentences look pretty neat. I suggest that you use Arial or Verdana font as well.

    2. Its kinda hard to explain but 1.5 line spacing allows for a little more gap (50% more actually) than the standard gap between sentences. This makes your print outs look neat and well laid out.

    3. What you've typed there is double spacing... 1.5 spacing gives a little lesser gap than that.

Its hard to explain... try looking in "Paragraph Properties" in your text editor... it must have a setting labelled "Line Spacing", you can use it to set 1.5 line spacing...

say in normal spacing there is 10 units of space between each line. Double spacing increases this to 20 units. 1.5 spacing is just in the middle, 15 units of space. Double spacing, as far as I'm aware, is the standard used as it's the easiest in readability.
