How do I know if I am passing my kidney stone?

The last 2 days I have been finding tiny white particles in my urine nearly everytime I pee, I also have had slightly more pain the last 2 days in my kidney and by my abdomen and it has been burning a little when I pee today nothing severe yet, just slight discomfort. I have been drinking about 10 glasses of water a day and also a couple of glasses of cranberry juice to flush the stone out. What are the particles? and why do I have the pain in the kidney and a slight burning when I pee? is it the stone moving or possibly passing. Any info I would be grateful, cause the doctors just keep saying it will pass. Thanks
