The First & Largest Teahouse Playhouse In Taiwan
Red Theatre existence dates back over 90 years. It once was the first model public market, as well as a performing arts center, and moreover, a major movie cinema in the Shimentin downtown area of Taipei, Taiwan. However since its prime in the 70s, Red Theatre has declined and seems to be fading out of people’s memory.
In the year 2002, the Cultural Affairs Bureau of Taipei commissioned the Paperwindmill Cultural Foundation to manage the Red Theatre. Under the installation art oriented redecoration plan, the ground floor of Red theatre was reborn as a creative showroom showcasing refined cultural products from the 921 earthquake zone. It offers people another venue for shopping.
Adjacent to the showroom and divided only by fish tanks is the Paperwindmill Cafe. The cafe offers reasonably priced food, coffee, and drinks. The unique interior design and artistic atmosphere often make for a packed cafe on weekends and holidays.Source(s): http://www.redplayhouse.com.tw/ 紅樓劇場
