When / If the US leaves, Iraq will have a civil war. One side, if not both will try to beat the other one and will need funding / weapons. Al Qaeda has both and would help one side gain power. In turn that side will allow Al Qaeda to be there... kinda like the US Government ( House / Congress / President ) is paid off (given donations) by large businesses to get what they want.

Because they are there right now and you don't see the government doing much to get rid of them even with us there to help, why should we think they would start when/if we leave?

The government/people don't have to like/support a group for it to be a breeding ground for that group. Iraq may (and most experts agree that if it Iraq stays as it is now, WILL) become a generic terrorist state with Al Qaeda making up a large portion of terrorists, but that isn't quite the same thing.

When they say it will become an Al Qaeda terrorist state, the government/news makers are themselves using terror to make their point more dire and sell more papers/get residents to believe them/make more money/ETC.

It would not become an Al Qaeda terrorist state. It is likely to split into Sunni, Shiite, and Kurdish states. This would only be a natural solution to the sectarian violence they have now.

    Hey, I agree with you.

Bush, Cheney, Rove, et al must think that all of us are simple minded morons.
