You cannot run for president if you were not born here.

The constitution states, "No person except a natural born Citizen, or a Citizen of the United States, at the time of the Adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the Office of President; neither shall any Person be eligible to that Office who shall not have attained to the Age of thirty-five Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident within the United States."

If Obama's parents are/were U.S. citizens, the so is he. Notice that there is no provision for dual citizenship exclusion.

I wonder if he is allowed to be a dual citizen at all by U.S. law.

    Additional info:

Barry Goldwater, the 1964 Republican candidate, was born in the Arizona Territory in 1909 (Arizona did not become the 48th state until 1912). Goldwater lost the 1964 election to Lyndon Johnson.

George Romney, a 1968 Republican hopeful, was born in Mexico in 1907 to American parents who had moved there to escape anti-Mormon persecution in the US. (Contrary to a widely held popular misconception, by the way, Romney's parents were settlers in Mexico, not missionaries.) Romney's campaign fizzled following a gaffe about his having been "brainwashed" by the military establishment into supporting US involvement in the Vietnam conflict.

John McCain, an early Republican hopeful in the current (2000) campaign, was born in the Panama Canal Zone in 1936 to American parents. McCain dropped out of the campaign in favor of the Republicans' eventual nominee, George W. Bush.

Some questions were raised at the time regarding both Goldwater and Romney's eligibility for the nation's highest office, but no formal legal challenge was mounted in either case.

theres no need to insult the man.your facts are wrong! as many have pointed out to you he was born in hawaii and is an american citizen.arnold was born in austria and is disqualified from ever running for president of the united states.frankly with the crap he has proposed in california i feel no person should be able to hold a high rank in government who were not born in this country.because they cannot run for president they may not make the best laws or policies for our country and our legal citizens.obama i feel is a good man but lacks experience and he will not be elected .if he was serious he would take his job as senator more seriously than he is and would be working in that capacity but he isnt,he sees dollar signs and glory imagining that he could be president! now wake up its not going to happen! maybe never.i wish him no harm but thats the way it is.good luck.

Arnold What's his name should never be allowed to run for another office that man's family were Nazi's but the US is no stranger to Nazi supporter's just ask dubya about grandpappy Prescott Bush.

And if you had a brain, you wouldn't say things like that. Obama was born in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Which, admittedly, will make it hard for history buffs 100 years from now to visit the Presidential birthplace, unless someone invents a form of transportation that can get people from New York to Honolulu as fast as it now takes to get from New York to Washington.

But he's an American. And, judging by the slop you put on this board, 10 times the American that you are.

Now, John Sidney McCain III (the Arizona Senator's REAL full name, unlike what you wrote above) was born in the U.S. Panama Canal Zone. Apparently, though, this isn't stopping him from running. Although I can think of plenty of reasons not to vote for him.

His father was born in Kenya and moved to Hawaii then Obama was born named after his father so he's technically a junior...so he's an american citizen.

only one guy or woman has spoke back this question properly and that they have been given a thumbs down. i think human beings do no longer easily care approximately information, they only care approximately slinging dirt. a million. Obama became born in Hawaii, no longer Kenya. (a million) 2. the U. S. shape states in Article II, area a million, Clause 5, "no person different than a organic born Citizen, or a Citizen of america, on the time of the Adoption of this shape, would be eligible to the place of work of President; neither shall any guy or woman be eligible to that place of work who shall no longer have attained to the Age of thirty 5 Years, and been fourteen Years a Resident in america." (2) 3. A organic born citizen is defined this sort: * every person born interior america * Any Indian or Eskimo born in america, offered being a citizen of the U.S. would not impair the guy's status as a citizen of the tribe * anybody born exterior america, the two one in all whose mothers and fathers are voters of the U.S., as long as one parent has lived in the U.S. * anybody born exterior america, if one parent is a citizen and lived in the U.S. for a minimum of one 365 days and the different parent is a U.S. national * anybody born in a U.S. possession, if one parent is a citizen and lived in the U.S. for a minimum of one 365 days * anybody discovered in the U.S. under the age of 5, whose parentage can't be desperate, as long as information of non-citizenship isn't offered by way of age 21 * anybody born exterior america, if one parent is an alien and as long through fact the different parent is a citizen of the U.S. who lived in the U.S. for a minimum of 5 years (with militia and diplomatic provider secure in this time) * an extremely final, historic issue: a guy or woman born formerly 5/24/1934 of an alien father and a U.S. citizen mom who has lived in the U.S. (3) the two Obama and McCain extra healthful the definition of a organic born citizen. it truly is a query that could desire to be spoke back by way of a 5th grader.

Barak Obama was born in Hawaii. His father was born in Kenya. barak is a US citizen and is therefore eligible to be president. Governor Arnold was born in Austria (not a US citizen by birth). He became a US citizen but is not eligible to be president.

His actual name is Barack Hussein Obama.

  • I thought he was born in Hawaii?

McCain was born in the Panama canal zone, but is a US citizen because his parents were.

That's how the law used to work. The idea that a child is a citizen of country X just because his Mom happened to be there the day she gave birth is found in few, if any other places and times . . . except in the USA of the late 20th and early 21st centuries. A cursory study of the meaning of the 14th Amendment makes it readilyu apparent that it was not intended to convey "birthright citizenship" on all comers.

But the courts have spoken, and the walls came tumblin' down.

Any child of US citizens born in another country is a US citizen. They would also be a citizen of the country they were born in. Thats how many people have dual citizenship. Anyway, it doesn't matter because he wasn't born in Kenya.
