Following are the states that use rear and front license plates, and how they're stickered:

    Alaska - rear plate only

    California - rear plate only

    Colorado - rear plate only

Connecticut - rear plate only (windshield stickers are being phased in, though)

District of Columbia - no plate stickers (windshield sticker instead - plates used to be stickered front and rear until 2003)

    Hawaii - rear plate only

    Idaho - both plates

    Illinois - rear plate only

    Iowa - rear plate only

    Maine - both plates

    Maryland - rear plate only

    Massachusetts - rear plate only

    Minnesota - both plates

    Missouri - both plates

Montana - rear plate only (recently switched from having both plates stickered)

    Nebraska - both plates

    Nevada - rear plate only

    New Hampshire - both plates

New Jersey - no plate stickers (windshield sticker instead - plates used to be stickered front and rear from 2000 to 2005 only)

New York - no plate stickers (windshield sticker instead)

    North Dakota - both plates

    Ohio - rear plate only

    Oregon - both plates

    Rhode Island - both plates

    South Dakota - both plates

Texas - no plate stickers (windshield sticker instead)

    Utah - rear plate only

    Vermont - both plates

    Virginia - both plates

    Washington - rear plate only

    Wisconsin -- rear plate only

    Wyoming - both plates

The one in the rear. that way, when a police person checks, they can tell immediately if the plates are valid.

i rotate my plates so they wear even but i make sure the sticker is on th back/rear plate.

Usually it's both. But if your state only issues only one then it would be the rear. So the 5-O can see it when they're behind you.

Getting license plates IS registering. They are one in the same. Once you have plates, you are registered.
