The French word ''lois'' is the plural form of the word '''loi'' which means ''law''. It can also be referring to the gods of the Haitian religion Voudou which in Creole is spelled ''Lwa'' with the same pronunciation.

'loi' means law! + 's'! So it takes the plural form, i.e 'laws'!
