General Hospital is a soap opera based in Port Charles, New York. When it first started it generated around the actual general hospital but it veered away from that for a while and has been working towards integrating the hospital more into the show in recent years.

There are several main couples including: Jax/Carly, Elizabeth/Lucky, Jason/Samantha, Luke/Tracy, Skye/Lorenzo, Emily/Nikolas and Robin/Patrick just to name a few. Some other key characters include: Sonny Corinthos, Lulu Spencer, Ric Lansing and Alexis Davis.

Sonny Corinthos used to be married to Carly and they have two kids together. He's a big crime boss in Port Charles and Jason Morgan works for him. They have many enemies but a big one is Lorenzo Alcazar and they are constantly trying to kill each other. Alexis had a little girl with Sonny and used to be married to Ric, the current District Attorney of the Port Charles Police. She's currently battling cancer and fighting a vicous custody battle with her ex-husband Ric. Ric is a manipulative person who has is own agenda to take down his mobster brother Sonny by any means possible even if it means going into business with Lorenzo Alcazar.

Lucky Spencer got addicted to drugs and ran his wife Elizabeth out one night and she ran to the safety of her old flame Jason Morgan where they slept together and she became pregnant with his child. Lucky went into rehab and for his sake so he wouldn't have a relapse, Elizabeth and Jason agreed to keep the baby's daddy a secret and just let Lucky believe that the baby boy was his.

During this past year, the show covered the contraversal subject of abortion when Lulu Spencer decided not to keep her baby that she became pregnant with with her step brother Dillan Quartermaine. The show showed her debating over adoption, abortion and keeping the baby and she weighed over the issues and researched what would have to be done and didn't go into it lightly. It was a well played out and everyone on the show put in their two cent about how they felt about her choice then she went ahead and did what she felt needed to be done. There is more story line but that about sums up the current season of the show.

It's a daily afternoon soap opera set in and around a hospital in a fictional town called Port Charles, New York. It has very little to do with hospital type things, however. It's just a lot of goofy overwrought romantic stuff, the way soap operas tend to be.
