What format should video be in to edit on Sony Vegas Movie Studio?

i'd like to learn how to edit movies with my new program

    Preferably MiniDV, but VMS can handle most formats so long as they don't use directshow. Divx and XviD can be troublesome, but they are usable.

    The VMS forum is a good place to go for help - there are some very experienced people on there who are always prepared to offer advice.


    Re Earl's comment below - The last couple of versions of VMS have been able to handle vob files.

    I think Vegas should handle almost anything. It may still have problems with MP4 and VOB DVD files, but it should handles most of anything else.
