anodizing is a coloring/hardening process for aluminum.. Many items of cookware are anodized aluminum.. is that what you mean? cooking pots?

There are two types of anodizing, hard and soft, both use sulfuric acid and 12 volt D/C to form a hard shell of aluminum oxide over the softer aluminum. Hard anodizing is used on high end cookware, engine parts etc. to protect or reduce friction. Soft anodizing is more decorative and is often colored.
