i have a home rigged sound system with 6 spe.....?

speakers, totalling 42 ohms of power, what wattage is this?

    Well, buddy, sorry to burst your bubble on this, but impedance has absolutely nothing to do with wattage. Impedance is how much resistance the speaker has, eg how hard an amp has to push to drive energy throught the voice coil of the speaker. Furthermore, unless your speakers are hooked positive to negative, one to the other, you don't have 42 ohms, also there is a formula for figuring impedance, and it isn't to just add them together! One way to estimate how many watts of power you have is to look on the streo, itself, on the back, and see how many watts it CONSUMES. Power amps generally put out about half of what they consume, so if you see that it consumes 200 watts, it prob. produces a little under 100.

    The wattage is on the back of the speakers. Check what that is and what they can accept, and then check your reciever to see what its putting out. Its also on the back. if the reciever is putting out more than the speakers, your going to damage the speakers.

    You have 7ohm speakers? Just giving us the ohm rating we will not be able to tell you what wattage you have or can handle or need.
