What does it mean when Mel Kiper says "luxury pick"?

He keeps talking about Michael Griffin being a "luxury pick" for the Titans. What does he mean by that?

It means that the Titans have more pressing needs at other positions and his hair thought they should pick more for need. He probably thought the Titans should pick an offensive player to help Vince Young develop in his first full year as a starter.

The Titans would probably counter that its not a luxury pick due to Pac-Man's suspension and they don't know when if ever he will come back.

If you listen to anything that Mel Kiper says then you really need to get a life. If you look at his Mock Drafts you will see that he only had 1 pick in the top 10 correct, and that was #1 pick JaMarcus Russell (such a tough pick). Kiper is more hyped than Brady Quinn was.

A luxury pick is a pick that really doesn't address a need but still helps them out anyway.

To base it off your Michael Griffin reference what the Titan's needed was a RB or WR but instead took a Safety even though Safety didn't seem to be as big of a need as the other positions.
