go to newegg.com for WAY discounted parts and cheap, cheap shipping.
Get a intel duo core processor for about $400
2GB ram for about $120
250GB hard drive for about $100
802.11 b/g wireless router (if you have other computers or if you plan on moving your computer somewhere else) $40
I wouldnt recomment a wireless keyboard for games, because it makes the games all screwed up.
flat screen monitor (17") you can get for under $150
A GOOD motherboard is about $200
Decent cool looking case is about $30
DVD/CD burner is about $30-$50
And windows XP is about $80-$100

Definitely do not get a mac.
Newegg is a good idea, but also compare the prices to mwave.com. as for what parts to get, it kind of depends on what you want to do. If you are on a tight budget, there is no reason to spend more than twice as much to get an intel, get an AMD processor, 4800+ is only $130. A 250 gig will run you about $70, Windows XP Pro is $130, and you definitely want pro.
