Insure that the transition of the thread to the shoulder is a radius and not a sharp corner. This done to eliminate a stress riser and avoid fracture while under load.

I'm guessing an undercut - thinking you are talking about male thread on a smaller diameter, connected to a larger diameter "shoulder". Need an undercut to clear the treading cutter.
