Apply for a public defender or ask the court for an appointed attorney.

Well when he was arrested, they read him rights that says "...You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed to you by the court." That part will be taken care of. Unfortunately, you do not have the right to bail if you cannot afford it. Did you contact a bail bondsman? They require that you put up 10% of the bail and they cover the rest.

call your county board association. they might be able to refer you to a low cost lawyer. most lawyers won't take pro bono work. he is allowed a public defender.
