    Yes He was. But not as an act of mercy, it was because they were checking to see if He was alive or dead, cuz if He was alive they would've broken His legs to die quicker. This fulfilled the prophesy: not one bone will be broken!

    Prophecy in the old testament states that none of his bones would be broken. They did that alot of times to hasten death.

    Psalm 34:20 "He keeps all of his bones, not one of them is broken - prophecy fullfilled - John 19:32, 33, 36 The soldiers thereforecame, and broke the legs of the first man, and of the other man who was crucified with Him; but coming to Jesus, who they saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs...... For these things came to pass, that the scripture might be fulfilled, " NOT A BONE OF HIM SHALL BE BROKEN."

    Prophecy: Zach. 12:10 " And I will pour out on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplication, so that they will look on Me whom they have pierced; and they will mourn for Him, as one morns for an only son, and they will weep bitterly over Him, like the bitter weeping over a first-born.: Fulfilled: John 19:34 but one of the soldiers pierced His side with a spear, and immediately there came out blodd and water.

    An act of mercy - I doubt it but it was prophecy fulfilled wither it was an act of mercy or not. They had already decided he was dead so what purpose would it have served to have periced his side other than fulfulling the OT prophesy?

    Yes He was speared. He was speared to make sure He was dead.

    Isaiah 53:5 But he was pierced for our transgressions,

    he was crushed for our iniquities;

    the punishment that brought us peace was upon him,

    and by his wounds we are healed.

    Yes, and no. He was, however this was a old method of ascertaining whether the person had expired or not. It has to do with the bodily fluids (Blood and plasma) separating after death, which was noted in the fluids coming from Jesus, according to the Bible.

    Yes, but it was not for mercy. It was done to hasten His death so his body could be removed before sundown, which would have been the beginning of the sabbath, which would have unlawful.

    He was stabbed because they thought he was already dead, but just wanted to make sure, and to fulfill the prophesy "not a bone will be broken"

    Roman guard pierced Christ's side to show the other soldiers that He was dead.

    It was to make sure He was dead. Often they broke their legs, but the soldier could tell Christ was already dead and he pierced His side.
