East Timor exports sandalwood, oil, natural gas, coffee, jackfruit, and a few other things. They use US dollars as currency, as well as Portuguese and Australian currency to a lesser extent. Their annual per capita income was about $800 and they had a GDP of around $370 million.
They have had some natural disasters, mainly typhoons, but nothing major. Most of the problems there are due to violent clashes. First, between Indonesian troops and East Timorese and since separation it has primarily been between Protestants and Catholics.
