The United States NEVER acquired Mexico. That is an independent nation located south of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. You obviously don't know the difference between the sovereign nation of Mexico and the State of New Mexico - which territory became a state at the same time Arizona did, in the year 1912.

The territories that became Arizona and New Mexico were taken from the nation of Mexico, as were Texas and California.

New Mexico is a wonderful place - I went to high school and college in Las Cruces, New Mexico - located forty miles north of El Paso, Texas along the Rio Grande river. It is known as "The Land of Enchantment" and the title is well-earned.

I do not think the United States has acquired Mexico....

Mexico sold California to the US. On 20 May 1848, the Treaty of Guadeloupe Hidalgo officially transferred the northern third of Mexico to the United States for $15 million.

In the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo (1848), Mexico relinquished control of the area N of the Gila River to the United States. This was Arizona and New Mexico.

in the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo (1848), Mexico ceded the U.S. its vast northern territories, including California, Arizona, and New Mexico
